Who is Loreth? And why should you care?
The thing that makes me special is that I am not special. My story will never be a Hollywood blockbuster. My name will not be in a history book. You would not glance twice if we passed on the street. I am just another middle aged woman growing older – and wiser – by the day. And there are millions more in the world just like me.
It’s tough being middle aged in the new millennium.
We midlifers are wedged between our own parents, our children, and their children. Let’s face it, we do not see the world in the same way as they. The easily offended, political correctness of the world we live in starts to lose its influence right about now.
Every generation wants the same thing - a better life for their children. Looking on at the world as it is today, I’m not so sure our grandchildren will see it for their own kids.
And that bothers me.
Newsflash: We are not technological dinosaurs.
Believe it or not, we understand social media. We consume new media. Some of us even know what Tik Tok is. That doesn’t mean it’s our religion. It really is okay to use a smartphone to call someone and talk - not with your thumbs - but talk. It’s okay to send us letters, or communicate in print. We will read it. Because we can. Even if it’s in cursive.
Even so, if you don’t have your own streaming channel, people believe you have nothing to say. What could you possibly know that would benefit people in any way?
And that bothers me.
We were running successful businesses - and happy lives - long before the digital gurus showed up.
If you believed everything you read in your newsfeed, you might think the world is full of helpless, hopeless people who need to be coached into happiness. There’s a new secret to success every day, and it can usually be yours for a mere $27.
Sadly, that is partly correct. People are desperately looking for solutions to self perpetuating problems in an endless cycle of “bright and shiny syndrome”. Countless time and money is spent on books, courses, workshops…. guidance! Ironically, the vast majority of this material sits idly incomplete on someone’s mental shelf while the 20-something salespersons with all the answers are eating pizza in their parents’ basements.
And, yes, that bothers me.
It’s easy to believe the world is a train wreck.
Mostly because it is.
I have thoughts on that. I share them in the articles here.
By now you’ve probably figured out that I write about the things that bother me.
Tell me again why I should care?
Chances are, you feel like the world is a bit of a train wreck, too. It turns out there are quite of few of us who feel that way. Chances are, more than a few of the things I write have been floating around in your own head as well. If you choose to read along, I hope you take a little comfort in the fact that you are not alone.
The obligatory not-so-fine print…
The things posted here are mostly a personal blog. They are based on my experiences and observations. I’m not writing to please anybody. At the time of this writing, I have no intention to make these ramblings consistent, cohesive, or even coherent. I’m writing for me and the benefit of my own demons. Come along if you like; I make no promises. But I also make no demands.
Let’s agree to each have zero expectations of one another. Then neither of us will be disappointed.
